Re: [Yasmin_discussions] art*science 2017 - The New and History

Oriana and Salvatore,

the "inclusivity" you mention from Salvatore's last post has not much to do
with language, but he rather refers to the posts themselves, as a whole.
While Salvatore expresses discontent with Ken's approach that he finds
"obscure," where he expects him to be inclusive, I would dare add a short
but relevant note. Since Salvatore's posts are reliably "inclusive" mainly
in the sense that he is including substantial self-promotional material –
that kind of "inclusivity" makes his posts more obscure when one tries hard
to dig out new questions and new ideas.This all, of course, would be of no
concern to this thread if it would be just Salvatore's personal style. But
it is more than, it seems to be part of our zeitgeist, and thus raises
another pertinent discussion point. Spam, selfies and self-promotion seem
to be our current cultural expression, and in terms of quantity, an
enormous contribution to cultural heritage today, that (unfortunately)
cannot be overlooked. And as Ken would ask – is this the world we want?

Thank you Oriana for picking up the discussion on language that Annick,
Ken, I, …, started a few posts ago. As Annick mentioned the problem of
choice of English as the main means of conversation in the Mediterranean
Rim, I'm glad you agree with me on the potential of AI to help solve this
problem and keep all languages alive. Hopefully digital neural networks
will help form a more diverse map of Mediterranean than the current
stereotypes occupying our human neural networks.
