Re: [Yasmin_discussions] How to train STEAM teams

Hi

During the project Nil by Mouth which focused on food we brought together
scientists from the Scottish Government's Strategic Research Programme Food
Land People Environmental Change with selected artists. Documentation is
here
http://creativefutureshq.com/projects/nil-by-mouth-food-farming-science-and-sustainability/
Through Alex Toland we presented a poster which shows the 'pattern of
interaction' - it was as with too many things done during projects it needs
updated -
https://www.academia.edu/8683547/Nil_by_Mouth_an_art_science_collaboration_on_sustainability_focused_by_food_and_farming

Nil by Mouth has led to further work between the teams and probably to
enduring relationships.

I've also worked on 'design innovation' projects and sandpits/chiasmas can
be effective starting points.

But through that work I discovered the evaluation approach of Nutley and
Meagher focused on Knowledge Exchange which I believe is particularly
relevant. They look for 5 forms of impact:
Instrumental
Capacity Building
Conceptual
Cultural/Attitudinal
Enduring Connectivity

Now we might debate whether the UK Policy around Knowledge Exchange has
anything to do with STEM to STEAM or multi/inter/trans disciplinary
collaboration, but I believe that Nutley and Meagher are offering a
robustly analysed range of possible outcomes which can help in thinking
about training as well as project development.

We wrote up our work here

Cheers
